Sunday morning started out fairly
mellow, late start at noon. Mags was kinda
ticked that I decided not to stay Tahoe with our friends.
After the cleaning up the apartment a
bit, (putting away our snowboarding equipment), I decided to cheer her up and
gave her the birthday present. She had
no clue what it could be, so she shook it up and tried to guess.
No luck, so she opened it and it’s a
portable MP3 CD player!!! It plays data
CDs that has MP3 burned onto it.
Rest of the afternoon was pretty
non-exciting, although Mags had some suspicions that there might be something
going on later on that night. (She
saw a box of New Year’s party things stashed in the corner of my place and
also, when she went over to a friend’s place, she saw the title of my Zaplet
email on her friend’s computer – “Maggie’s Surprise Birthday party…”)
Since I had to make an excuse to get
out of the house, I told her that a friend of mine from New York was having
girlfriend problems in Berkeley and I had to go pick him up because he got
kicked out and had nowhere to go. She
couldn’t go with me because in an hour or so, her high school friends are going
to come to take her out to a birthday dinner.
I met up with Maggie’s sister, Milly
and Jay. They came over and helped set
up the place after Maggie left the apartment.
I picked up Ted & Christina from the Fremont BART, who also helped
set up for the party.
We put up the balloon drop-bag, cut up
the fruits, set up the food trays, and waited for everyone to arrive.
Soon, there was a pretty sizable crowd
in my apartment. Luckily, we delayed
Maggie from coming back home for a while, so it gave time for more people to
show up to surprise her. Unfortunately,
my camera wasn’t in position to get a picture of the actual surprise, so anyone who has one, please forward it to
me!
After the surprise, the party got
started, drinks started to flow – we got Toranis, champagne, vodka, various
mixes, club soda, lots of ice, and an awesome blender. Plus, there was plenty of food for the ones
who didn’t have time to eat yet.
We played Taboo as an ice-breaker. I think people liked it since it gave time
for some to recover from their first round of drinks and for others, to paint
their nails! =)
Then we brought out the
Ben&Jerry’s ice-cream cake with Happy Face bomb candles and Re-lighting
Magic candles. Hehehe…..Mags never had
a chance!
In the meantime, on my toilets got
clogged so bad, that it overflowed and went all over my bathroom floor! Oh, well…..it wouldn’t be a party without
something happening!
Back to Mags and birthday. She’s having an awesome time opening up her
presents, which she just loves to do!
Since it’s nearing midnight, we
started to pour a fresh round of champagne or cider for everyone. Maggie did a great job as a waitress,
calling out orders and passing out the drinks.
The balloon-bag thing didn’t work too
well, so we had to rip it apart. Oh
well, almost same effect…..balloons everywhere!
After a few drinks, some people
started to leave early. Also, others
decide to go into the city to do some dancing.
People who remained gathered to chat and to play Mafia.
The party lasted to about 3:30am, at
least it did in my eyes, I fell asleep around then on the floor and so did a
few other guests.
Well, that’s it!
Next morning, me and Mags cleaned up the rest of the place with some
help from friends who stayed over. I
thought it was a successful party and I hoped everyone who came had fun! Thanks for coming, everyone!!
