YEAR 2007

Year 2007, another great year!  We got married this year....twice, in different countries!  We got into the wedding cake baking business, while our regular business had its ups and downs.  We also traveled a lot this year, Salt Lake City, Hawaii, Mexico, Caribbeans, LA, Vegas, Yosemite, San Diego, Chicago, and of course, Taiwan. We had a lot of fun getting new laptops because we can't decide which one to get and getting used to Microsoft's new Vista system.  Within the last half of the year, I'm actually cooking more than Maggie, but she bakes a lot more than I do.  =)   As you can probably tell, the number of albums has gone down, but within each album, the number of pictures have gone up.  I guess that means, that I stopped taking pictures of the routine things like poker/game/movie nites or just another night out and only take pictures at events, but when I do, I take a ton of pics!  Oh, I learned that for those large albums, a smaller album of just highlights would really help, so I'm going to start doing that in 2008.

bulletNew TV, Brian's Birthday, and 3-course meal - Yeah, I'm getting lazy at separating out the events, but really wants to see just a few pics in an album, right?  Anyways, we got a new TV to replace our good ole Sony WEGA and it took quite a bunch of changes to make sure we could accommodate the new TV.  We also celebrated Brian's birthday this weekend and I was forced to cook a 3-course meal.
Nov 30-Dec 1, 2007

bulletMy Birthday celebration (Vegas-style) - Yup, we did what I liked best, gambling!  I'm going to keep this short as I said a lot on my Smugmug, but suffice to say, I felt like I was a vampire, only active during the night.  My first sight of my 'day' is the sunset, and my last meal before bed is the early morning special at some breakfast cafe!  Oh, one of my biggest winning streak in a very short amount of time - over $500 in 20 minutes! =)
Nov 22-23, 2007

bullet Thanksgiving 2007 (Friendskit & Family) - Yay!  A four-day weekend....so glad for it as I really needed a break.  A day of gluttony on Thursday, we started eating from 1pm through 1am, just constantly grazing through all the different foods that people brought.  The trick is to notice when someone new comes in and run down to get the food, otherwise, it'll be gone in a few minutes!  =)
We also had a crab dinner with family, which was quite tasty despite the oil spill and it was pretty cheap too!
Nov 16-18, 2007

bulletDaniel & Katherine's Wedding - We traveled south to Los Angeles to celebrate my high-school friend's wedding in downtown LA.  Thanks to Ted, who drove us everywhere, we didn't have to get a rental car on this trip and we traveled in luxury in his Lexus.  =)
PS:  We also delivered one of Maggie's cakes to a client on Sunday, so there's pictures of her cake in this album.
Oct 25-28, 2007

bulletLinda & Rino's Wedding - We traveled to the big city of Chicago where Rino proposed to Linda last winter to celebrate their marriage!  Thanks to Rose, we were pretty much pampered the entire time we were there, driven from place to place and arranging all the accommodations!  We stayed at the Swissotel which was a rather interesting triangle-shaped hotel and we got to know it quite well!  Congratulations, Linda & Rino!
Sept 16, 2007

bulletJim's Jimalympics - Each year Rita thinks of something different to do to celebrate Jim's birthday and this year was no different in that sense!  A compilation of games culminated in a spitting round at the birthday boy! Wonderfully done!  Happy Birthday!
PS - check out the cake, it's totally Jim!
Sept 2, 2007

bulletLabor Day BBQ - We had a themed BBQ (South of the Border) in which we cooked up some pretty tasty foods and desserts!  Please pardon the picture quality of this album as it was taken with a new, un-tried camera.
Aug 25-26, 2007

bulletLazy Camping in Santa Rosa - Yup, another lazy camping weekend, where all we do is eat, sleep, drink, and do pretty much nothing.  No hiking, no natures walks, no exploring, just eating, drinking, and sleeping.  Only problem is that after a weekend of laziness, I feel like hitting the gym for the entire next week!  Way too much food!!!
Aug 11, 2007

bulletRich & Tina's Wedding - With almost 400 people in their wedding, Rich & Tina needed a big place for their venue and what's bigger than a World War II aircraft carrier!  A beautiful sunny day for their wedding, although it was a little windy.  It was a fun wedding with just right amount of humor and seriousness that you have come to expect of Rich & Tina!  Congratulations!
PS - in case you're wondering, yes, we went to a Lexus drive event, then changed in an alley nearby.  =)
Aug 10, 2007

bulletTony's 30th Birthday - Yup, everyone is turning to big 3-0!  In celebration, Tony invited a few friends to dinner and to do some drinking at a club in SF.  We decided to spice things up a bit by pimping him out!  That costume was the best wingman he's ever had!  Most of girls in the pictures with him......we have no clue who they are!
Aug 5, 2007

bullet Reno/Donner Lake Fishing - Right after the BBQ, a small group of us headed up to Reno to do grab some food and of course to do some gambling!  Henry and I played until 7am (in celebration of his birthday, of course!), then we joined the rest of the guys to go fishing at Donner Lake.
Aug 4, 2007

bulletHenry's Birthday BBQ - A lunch BBQ in the park with some charcoal grilling of your basics - burgers and dogs!  Brian brought some chili and made it chili burgers!  We also had a couple doggies to play with along with various other sports stuff, but it was a warm sunny and it made most people just want to play in the shade......in the bounce house with rubber balls!  =)
July 14-15, 2007

bullet Ventura/LA Trip - Maggie wanted to visit her sister, so I said I would come and help drive as well as make a side trip to LA to visit some old friends.  Was suppose to be a longer trip, but turned out to be just an overnighter!  Her parents decided to join in at the last minute.
June 29-30, 2007

bulletYuji's 30th Birthday - My good bud finally made it to the big 3-0 and he decided to celebrate it by hanging out with some of his closest friends up on Northern Cal.  Nothing like a relaxing day fishing off a boat and a trip up to wine country to help ring in the new decade!
June 24, 2007

bulletWedding dress bet = Steak & Lobster! - I made a bet to try to guess the cost of the wedding dresses that Maggie bought and boy, I was way off!  So, I'm more than happy to make good on this bet with a pair of huge lobsters (2.5lbs+) and prime ribeye steak.  Henry & Diana joined us and contributed to our surf & turf with a little beer-can chicken and salmon.
June 16-17, 2007

bulletCache Creek Rafting Trip - Our annual recurring trip to Cache Creek, this time, with a group of 26 people!  Since we went earlier in the year than we normally do, the water was higher and faster, so made for nice fast rapids!  We supplanted our lunch this year with extra snacks (rice krispies, brownies), Korean rolls, prosciutto, salami, and other various items to supplant our river picnic.  Other than that, camping was a tad far, but we were together in our own little tent city, which is what matters.  Oh, and we had a cut nose, bump on the face and a big hit to the leg for injuries.
June 1-3, 2007

bulletYosemite Cabin Trip - For our annual 'camping' trip this year, we decided to head to Yosemite and stay in one of their rustic cabins.  Most of the group hiked Half Dome, while others did shorter hikes or went white-water rafting on the Merced river.  Over 20 people squeezed into 4 cars for the trip and the weekend felt like it just flew by!

bulletMemorial Day Weekend - Like every other holiday weekend, it was a weekend of food, bbq, more food and poker!  Inter-mixed are some level of exercise like volleyball and shopping, but not much else.  Of course, it was good to see many people as it has been a month since our wedding, which didn't seem that long ago!  is that good or bad?
May 20, 2007

bulletBelated Mother's Day & Father's Bday dinner - So, we were away on our honeymoon during Mother's Day, so we decided to make up for it a week later.  We decided on a seafood theme as our parents love seafood.  So, here's a thought, why is seafood so expensive, when the sea holds the greatest amount of edible meat on the planet?
May 19, 2007

bulletSpring Kitchen Cleaning - Yup, that's right.....Spring Kitchen Cleaning!  We cleaned the entire kitchen, degreasing, painting, re-organizing, moving shelves, installing new pot racks, and putting away all the new kitchen toys that we received! (Thanks, everyone!)
May 3-13, 2007

bullet Honeymoon in St Lucia (water pix) - Here's the pics from our waterproof camera before it died in a valiant attempt to stay dry in over 20 ft of water when it's rated for only 1.5 meters!  However, before it died, we took a bunch of pictures since we spent the majority of our time on our honeymoon doing some kind of outdoor activity.

Honeymoon in St Lucia and Jamaica - Here's the rest of the pictures of our honeymoon.  We didn't have any water pics of Jamaica since our waterproof camera broke in St Lucia.  These all-inclusive resorts are pretty nice, we really got used to ordering food and not having to pay for it at the end!  What a change when we got back and have to start paying for stuff again.....=(
April 3, 2007

bulletMy 8-minute mile - Technically, this is not a picture album, but thanks to Rita, we got something even better.....a short movie!!
Challenged to run a mile under 8-minutes and now two people owe me a meal apiece!  HAHAHA!
March 22-25, 2007

bulletMy Bachelor Party in Hawaii - My best man and groomsman put together an awesome bachelor for me in Waikiki, Hawaii!  Along with 8 of my buds, we partied for 3 nights straight!  I think I still have alcohol poisoning despite the fact that I stopped drinking 3 days ago!!
- Dave's pictures contains more night events.
March 18, 2007

bulletJames Birthday 2007 - What better way to end a great Sunday afternoon with a meal at Hooters!  Tons of food, busty hooters everywhere, what more can you ask?  Oh, wait......James???  =)
March 18, 2007

bulletJean's Birthday 2007 - Jean added another year to her belt and on her special day (slightly belated), she participated in a very special Olympics specially put together by Jeff and Jane ...... Boba Olympics!!  In addition to 5 fun events and food, we had a half-sized pinata to smash stuffed full of candy, lollipops, and ....condoms!!!
March 17, 2007

bulletAlex's Birthday 2007 - Alex hates surprises, so what do you give to the man who will buy it all by himself....you give him a surprise!!  We had a surprise dinner where we all hid in the back of the restaurant until he showed up, directed into the trap by Sophia. A round of real bowling and Wii bowling rounded out a good evening with friends.
Feb 17, 2007

bulletChinese New Year - It's the year of the Golden Pig!  According to Chinese people, this year is a good year to have kids as this year only comes once in 60-something years.  Jean planned and cooked a wonderful dinner at Jim/Rita's place (thanks for hosting!) and I brought my appetite and ate like a......PIG!!  =) A good meal, good company, good entertainment, what more can one ask for!
Feb 14, 2007

bullet Valentine's Day 2007 - This year, instead of cooking for just us, Maggie cooked for us and two other couples (Henry/Diana, Jim/Rita)!  She made a nice couple's three-course meal, which everyone enjoyed, although Henry seems to enjoy more than others as he polished off more than twice the chicken as other people!  =)  Good thing, Maggie planned for that!
Feb 4, 2007

bulletSuper Bowl 2007 - Everyone headed to SF to gather at Brian's for a deep-frying session and to watch the game since he offered and because he has like the most seats for people to watch from!  Food ranged from pizza, KFC, corn critters, fresh veggies/fruits, chips, lots of chips, cake, brownie, rotisserie chicken, buns, deep-fried ice-cream, and a ton more!  I think I forgot the meaning of hunger that day!
Feb 3, 2007

bulletGinger's Birthday and Bike Bet - A crazy work-out this past Saturday that left many a little sore and some whiners really ....well, whiny! (ahem..henry)   Rode almost 18 miles on a bike, celebrated Ginger's birthday by smashing her with rubber balls for 2 hours, then a nice dinner followed by some drinks capped a wonderful day!  (Big thanks to Tina for taking these pics!)
Jan 24-28, 2007

bulletMaggie's Bachelorette Trip - For her bachelorette party, Maggie decided to take the girls on a 5-day trip to Mexico!!  And here I thought it was supposed to be just a PARTY (ie. a day/night max!), but instead it's 5-days, 4-nights of fun in the sun and dancing/drinking during the night and trying to get some desperate attention from gay guys!  HAHAAHA!!
Jan 18-21, 2007

bulletSalt Lake City Ski Trip - This year's Friendskit Ski Trip was to Salt Lake City, Utah as the snow in Tahoe has been seriously disappointing over the last couple of years.  Although the turnout was low, the fun factor was totally awesome!  Dry powder, cold temperatures, fast lifts....what more can you ask for in a snow resort?
Jan 13, 2007

bulletLiz's Birthday - To celebrate Liz's birthday this year, we had a nice dinner at a local restaurant in the suburbs!  Then we headed for to their place for a few rounds of PS2 guitar action!

Shawn Speaks!! - 2006

7/4/07 July 4th again!  But dang it, it's in the middle of the week, so what to do?  Actually, not much except to take a breather from work before getting slammed again.  Some say that having work is a good thing, but wouldn't it be better to earn money and not really work at all be an even better thing?   In an ideal world, that would be the rule, but unfortunately, most of us don't live in a world like that.  So, I'm going to use tomorrow to take a break, eat some good food, vegitate a bit, just not think about anything that doesn't concern me having some R&R.

Other than that, past month has been pretty lively with outdoorsy events and I think I got banged up pretty good during the last rafting trip.  Still have bruises and an odd bump on my face from it, not sure if I should have it looked at or not.  One thing to remember when rafting....don't go into the rapids sideways or do a Titanic move where you clip one side because instead of sinking slowly, you flip over immediately!  And doing that in rapids (which are caused by rocks), you get slammed into rocks without any padding.  Lost my favorite Oakley sunglasses during the hit, but somehow I got my trusty visor back.  Kinda bummed.  Oh well, guess it was bound to happen someday.  When you don't take precautions (like tying a string to your sunglasses), you're bound to get shit on someday!

5/22/07 Once again, between work and personal stuff, I haven't had any time to write at all!  However, I have a good reason.....I got married!  I find that the planning of the wedding isn't that stressful, you just need to plan well and it's a pretty easy.  The problem is with executing the plan!  With proper planning and good help, it shouldn't be that hard, but like any plan, if one part of the chain starts to fail, it has a cascading effect throughout the entire day.  One mid-day vendor was late by an hour, which delayed our timetables by an hour, which had a cascading effect on the remaining day, causing us to have to curtail some socializing time with friends/family and picture time as well.  But, we got back on schedule at the ceremony and the rest of the evening went smoothly because everyone else played their parts superbly!

Anyways, that big part of life is now completed and not so surprisingly, it doesn't feel any different.  Basically, we just made our union legal in the eyes of the government and pay them a fee for getting married.  oh well!  Other than that, it's life as usual...working, playing, eating, sleeping!

2/18/07 Must be a record....less than 2 weeks later and I'm already babbling again!  =)

Anyways, today, I had two people ask me about cell phones and the general consensus is that they just don't understand what the heck is the difference all the phones and plans that is currently available.  Since I deal with this on a daily basis, it makes sense to me, but after hearing them, I can understand the confusion.  There are like 3 dozen different phones plus over a dozen voice plans, almost 2 dozen data plans, and another dozen add-on packages like insurance, etc.  Oh, and that's just one carrier.  So, as usual, I asked how they like to use their phone or how would they like to use their phones and gave them a few options in terms of phones and services.  Each of them said that they'll go out and check out the pricing and let me know what they go with.  Glad I could help!

2/6/07 Well, figured I'll put in my first words for the year.  The entry below really couldn't be said to be the first words of the year.  To start off, I have to wonder why some people take more risk than others and do people end up breaking even in the end?  For example....sports betting...football...say the Super Bowl game.  It was pretty clear from what I gathered amongst my friends and comments online that Colts will win and will more than likely beat the spread of 7 points.  So, I could have easily put down money on the Colts and be happy to get 1:1 on my money.  HOWEVER, I decided to be greedy and figured that if I bet on the Colts and since they have such a great offense, most likely they'll go OVER on the game's total points which was 48.5.  So, I took a parlay instead of the pretty sure thing to have the Colts win by the spread and took the over.  Now, you're asking why???  I could have easily gotten ....let's say $100 risked, $100 gained, but instead I risked it by doing the parlay.  Well, because the parlay would mean that with the same $100, I could potentially gain $285 or 2.85:1 for money.  At the time, that sounded like the 'smart bet', you get almost 3:1 on your money for only getting two items right.

In hindsight.....I should have just taken the 1:1 bet and be up $100, instead of totally out of the money.  Stupid, stupid, stupid!  Well, another year, another lesson.
