This STD is actually caused by two types of herpes simplex virus which referred to as Type I and Type II. Although Type I is found more often in the lips and Type II on the genitalia, it is possible for either of them to infect any mucous membrane. Infections usually have a latent period in which it is the infected person has no signs that they have been infected. However, outbreaks do occur periodically in the form of painful blisters that leaves temporary scars on the skin. As for the location of these blisters, it could anywhere that the virus has spread to in your body. Outbreaks has been known to brought on by various forms of stimuli such as stress, heat, or even different kinds of food. Outbreaks usually last anywhere from three weeks to several months, then the virus becomes latent until it's ready to come out again.Herpes are easily transmitted through sexual contact or fluid transfers. Oral sex, kissing, touching of open blisters, intercourse are all methods of transmission. However, it is hard for this virus to be transferred through secondary contact such as two people using the same dildo. Basically, it could be transmitted in much of the same way as AIDS virus.
Unfortunately, medical science has not found a way to cure us of viral infections of any kind and since herpes are caused by a virus, this STD can NOT be cured. However, what the doctors can do is prescribe medication to help ease the symptoms like reducing the number of outbreaks or their duration. Sometimes, people have severe reactions to these outbreaks such unbearable pain in which they need medical attention. Since outbreaks cause a lot of pain, it is hardly possible to have sex, but if a person does and gets the woman pregnant, the baby will be infected with the virus which could be detrimental to its health, even death. Also, if the woman has herpes on the her cervix, it could lead to cancer if left untreated. Like other STD whose symptoms include open wounds, any skin-to-skin contact with can transmit the disease.
